Supplies needed:
Filters Unlimited 2
VM Natural - Sparkle
Supply folder
PSP, 9, X or XI
Animation Shop
Open the tubes and duplicate them and close out the originals
- Open a
new transparent image 500 X 500 pixels and minimize it.
- Now open
a 2 transparent images of 221 X 194
- Select
your dropper tool and select 2 colors from your tube, right click for the
background and left lick for the foreground
- Now
flood fill one of the smaller canvases with one of your colors
- Go to
effects – plug in's – I.C.Net Software – Filters Unlimited 2.0 – edges,
square – square edge 16 and apply the effect, and do this also to the other
one of the small canvases but with your other color that you selected.
- Now open
up your 500 X 500 canvas, now copy the lighter square that you just made and
paste it as a new layer, and place it kinda in the middle of your canvas,
you can re position it later on.
- Now copy
your dark square and place it down and to the right of the light square, now
place another of the light squares on to your canvas, but more to the right
and down some below the top of the first light square that you placed, and
now copy the dark square again and paste it as a new layer, but up and to
the right, see my example below. When you have them placed like you want
them, merge visible.

- Now
resize the ribbon flower tube to 56 X 69 and copy it, now paste it as a new
layer, and place it towards the bottom left corner of the dark tile, the one
that is near the bottom. Now do the same thing but place it on the top right
corner of the dark square up near the top.
- Now
merge visible
- Resize
the mermaid tube to 299 X 475 pixels and copy it and paste it onto your
canvas as a new layer.
- Now grab
your freehand tool and start tracing the wings of the mermaid, now here is a
tip, you will need to go close along the body and hair, but when you are up
near the top, you don’t have to be so close to the wings. And you will need
to use these settings : Selection type: mode to mode Mode: replace
Feather: 0. Once you have drawn around one wing, press your SHIFT key and
start the other one. Failure to press the SHIFT key on your keyboard will
remove the “Marching Ants” from the other wing.
- When you
finish tracing the wings, go to selection – promote selection to layer, now
on your layer pallet, make the tube layer active, and hit your delete key,
this will remove the wings off of the tube layer. Now select none. And move
the tube layer to the top.
- Now add
your text, create it as a vector, and place it near the bottom of the
canvas.
- Now add
a new raster layer, and start placing the sparkles onto the belt and
bracelet of the mermaid. Now you are going to add 2 more raster layers, so
you will not have to go back and do them after you add noise to the wings.
And also that way you can see where you placed the other sparkles. Once you
have your 3 layers of sparkles, highlight the layer with the wings on it.
- Now go
to adjust – add/remove noise and use these settings: Uniform ticked,
Monochrome checked, and 25%
- Now go
to effects – plug ins – VM Natural – sparkle and put the size to about 16
and the random seed to about 33 and click ok.
- And
repeat these steps with your text layer.
- Now hide
the top 2 sparkle layers, and merge visible. And them copy and paste the
layer that is visible over to AS. And then click your undo button until you
have removed the noise on the wings.
- Now you
are going to add the noise again, but this time increase the percentage to
30% and when you add the sparkle using the VM filter, change the random seed
to like 50, now hide the first and third sparkle layers, and merge visible
and then copy it and paste it over to Animations shop after current frame.
- Now once
again click your undo button in PSP until the noise of the wings is not
there anymore, and you are going to do the same step as before but changing
the percentage of noise to 35% and the random seed of the VM sparkle filter
to about 62. And this time you are going to hide the first 2 sparkle layers
and merge visible and copy the visible layer over to animation shop like
before.
- And now
just animate it and save it and you’re done!!
